Manager Viktor Skripnik revealed in a press conference on Thursday that Özkan Yildirim will be sidelined for some time having torn his lateral meniscus. "Ötzi is really unlucky with regards to injuries. He had just returned to fitness and now requires an operation. We'll have to wait and see how long he'll be sidelined. We send him all our best wishes and hope that he returns stronger than ever," said the Bremen manager.
Yildirim pulled up in trianing on Wednesday morning and had to cut his session short. The 22-year-old returned to training at the start of April after a long spell on the sidelines. He was named in the starting XI for the home game against Hamburger SV. He was also included in the squad for the Paderborn match but didn't feature.
There was also bad news regarding Felix Kroos: "Felix requires an MRI because his rib injury has worsened this morning," explained Skripnik. "It's an unpleasant injury. We don't yet have a time frame for how long he'll be out of action."
