What a bitter last minute defeat that was. Deeply disappointed, the Werder team trudged back into the dressing room after the 3-2 defeat against VfB Stuttgart, frustrated by their own performance and furious at conceding such an unnecessary goal late on. "Everyone is very angry", admitted Eichin.
"Words fail me right now. We were so amateur in closing out the game. At 2-2, with ten men on the pitch, Stuttgart were dead and buried. I would expect us to show some intelligence at this point and try to keep the ball. But we gifted them a goal. It was careless and irresponsible. You cannot play like that in the Bundesliga. Some players think the season is already over. We will be having some very serious discussions about this over the next few days", promised Werder's sporting director.

Manager Viktor Skripnik was also very honest, admitting that the defeat "really hurt. We're all very disappointed. The team who won today was the team who showed the most will and determination. But to have an extra man on this pitch and concede such a goal in injury time is terrible from us. The team fought their way back twice, but were lacking the intelligence to see the game out. We needed to have been satisfied with a point away from home."
The Bremen coach won't be happy with just a point this coming week, however: "We are desperate to claim our 500th home victory in the game against Hamburg. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. We want to beat them at all costs and the players must be really up for it."
Thomas Eichin emphasised that this would not be an easy task: "HSV will also be going into the game desperate to win. We must make sure that we get all three points and put in a solid performance over the 90 minutes. That's our next task."
