Werder striker Davie Selke was named Bremen's Sportsman of the Year on Tuesday evening. The 20-year-old attended the ceremony at the GOP-Varieté-Theater along with fellow nominees Werder's vice world champion in visually impaired and blind chess, Oliver Müller and ice hockey player Marian Dejdar.
Hockey player Kristina Hillmann was named Sportswoman of the Year while the Fischtown Pinguins picked up the award for Team of the Year.
"This award fills me with great pride. In the past, there have been many famous Werder stars such as Dieter Eilts, Marco Bode and Rude Völler who have been named Sportsman of the Year. To be held in the same regard as these people is a real honour for me," explained Selke.
The Germany international won the European Championship with the u19 team in July of last year and also set a new record of the most goals scored during the tournament after netting 6 times. Selke has established himself in Werder's first team squad this season and has scored 5 goals in 21 games.
