Alejandro Gálvez is off his crutches and that's not the only good news for the Spanish central defender. "I feel very good," he explained and then announced his news which will be music to the ears of the Werder fans: "Tomorrow I'll be back out running. I hope rejoin team training in a week."
It's been a difficult few weeks for Alejandro Gálvez. After suffering a minor syndesmosis ligament tear during the game against Bayer Leverkusen, the 25-year-old was banned from any form of sporting activity for a week. "It was particularly difficult when I could only walk with my crutches and couldn't actually do everything for myself but I had the support of Santiago Garcia, Franco Di Santo and Luca Caldirola. I always think positively and have quickly overcome the challenge," reflected Gálvez in an interview with WERDER.DE.

Short break with his family in Spain
In fact, he recovered remarkably quickly from his complicated injury. Gálvez is able to make the move from the gym back out onto the training pitch only four weeks after sustaining the injury. "It was the most serious injury I've suffered in my career to date. I never expected to be back so quickly but I'm obviously delighted," said the Spaniard. Following the three day break and a trip back home to see his family in Granada, his focus is firmly set on making his comeback. How he gets on over the next few days will help to show the expected timeframe for his return however, the defender is itching to get back: "I can't wait!"
He struck up a new partnership at the heart of defence with winter signing Jannik Vestergaard in 2015. They put in solid performances against Hertha and Hoffenheim but Gálvez had to withdraw from the Leverkusen game after only 50 minutes. "The first games went very well. Jannik Vestergaard works tirelessly, always wants to learn and is an excellent footballer. I really enjoy playing alongside him," remarks Gálvez, despite the few games they completed together prior to his lay-off. However, just taking a positive approach isn't enough. "We still have lots that we can improve," said Gálvez. In all areas, regardless of our current good form, we can still "go the extra mile."

Gálvez: "The lads are going to give everything!"
Despite his quick recovery, the home match against Bayern will come too soon for Gálvez and he will instead support the team from the stands. He is optimistic ahead of the game and believes that his teammates can deliver a result. "We're obviously going to win," he predicts and laughs. In any case, the team is stronger at home than away. What he's certain of is that the lads will give absolutely everything in an attempt to carve out a result. Gálvez himself has proven what's possible with determination and hard work.
