In the team, out the team and back in again. That's one way you could describe the past few weeks for Philip Bargfrede...

+++ Back in the team, Bargfrede: In the team, out the team and back in again. That's one way you could describe the past few weeks for Philip Bargfrede. Having been a constant in the line up towards the back end of last year and the beginning of 2015, the 26 year old suffered a setback after sustaining a pelvic injury. Against Freiburg, "Bargi" didn't just return to the squad, he was back in the starting XI, playing the whole game and showing just why he is so widely admired. Captain Clemens Fritz marvelled at Bargfrede's performance, "he is simply a phenomenon. He trained with the team twice since returning from injury and then has a performance like that". Bargfrede laughed off his return saying, "I don't need to train much, the manager knows that!". That said, it took a lot of energy for the midfield maestro to see out the full 90 minutes, something he openly admits, "It was exhausting in the second half. I had to really dig deep. I tried to keep the midfield tight and I'm happy that it worked". +++

+++ Three days off: On Wednesday the likes of Junuzovic, Gebre Selassie and Co. will return to training. Until then, manager Victor Skripnik has given the team some time off to recharge their batteries after an exhausting last week. Whether Garcia, Selke or Caldirola, each player has done something different with their free time. Whilst Caldirola flew to Italy, Selke has visited family in south Germany. "It's been an eternity since I last spent three days at home! I hope they still remember me", joked Selke. Theodor Gebre Selassie and Santiago Garcia, however, are making the most of the time by enjoying walks in the city park. +++

+++ Quartet close to comeback: Although the first team are enjoying a break until Wednesday, four players were back on the training pitch on Monday to continue their recovery to fitness. Levent Aycicek (knee problem), Melvyn Lorenzen (rehab after knee op), Özkan Yildirim (rehab after groin injury) and Julianvon Haacke (rehab following ruptured cruciate ligament) worked hard towards their comeback on Monday morning in perfect football weather. +++

+++ Back to winning ways: Werder are level with Bayern and Wolfsburg, a statistic that gives encouragement and optimism for sure. Since the beginning of 2015, Werder share top spot with 16 points in the form tables with next opponents Bayern, and Vfl Wolfsburg, the only team in that time to defeat Werder. Furthermore, Saturday's win in Freiburg was their third consecutive away game without defeat. With seven away points in three games (their best run in four years), Werder have climbed from bottom to ninth in the away league table. +++

Thumbs up for successful applications: Participants of Saturday's coaching sessions

+++Top corner strike a winner: His wonder goal sealed the victory, not just on the pitch, but in the voting poll on Werder's official Facebook page. Franco Di Santo was once again voted "Volkswagen Man of the Match". WERDER.DE says, "Congratulations Franco!" In second place, Werder fans voted for keeper Raphael Wolf, who protected his goal militantly, in recognition of the number one's strong performance. +++

+++ Mr Assist Öztunali: The floodgates have opened. With his delightful cross field ball to Di Santo, Levin Öztunali set up the winning goal in Freiburg. It was the third assist in two games for the 18 year old who has now been directly involved in three of the last four league goals for Werder. +++

+++ Application advice at the Weser Stadium: There were some useful tips for pupils of partner schools on Vegesacker Straße on how to write successful job applications. After the lecture, participants were taken on a tour of the Weser stadium and were given some useful documents among which, a certificate and a professional photo for applications. +++
