There are still questions over whether Jannik Vestergaard will be able to play in Sunday's game against VfL Wolfsburg (1st March, 17:30 CET). The Denmark international has had a muscle problem in his thigh but took part in a 45-minute individual training session this morning. However, the 22-year-old was unable to take part in team training. "Things felt better after the session but we'll have to wait and see whether he'll be fit," said manager Viktor Skripnik, who is not worrying too much.
Skripnik is reporting that they have the luxury of having so many centre backs available: "We're lucky that we have so many good centre backs," said the 45-year-old about the amount of options at the heart of the defence. Every combination is still possible ahead of the game against Wolfsburg. The recently recovered Sebastian Prödl could start alongside Assani Lukimya: "Luki is possibly in the best form at the moment and doesn't want to lose his place in the starting line-up. Luca Caldirola has also been training well," were the observations of the Werder manager. But Skripnik doesn't want to give anything away: "It'll be decided on the day."
Another place up for grabs is that of attacking midfield. Bremen will be forced into a change as Fin Bartels will miss out through suspension. Werder's manager claims there are three players in contention: Levent Aycicek, Levin Öztunali and Maximilian Eggestein. "I have an idea as to who will play but it's not certain yet," said Skripnik, who was keeping his cards close to his chest.
