Zlatko Junuzovic put the ball down for a free kick in injury time as it looked like the Green-Whites would be heading home with a 1-0 defeat after conceding an unfortunate goal, but Sebastian Prödl got his head on the end of it to score the equaliser.

It was fitting that it was Prödl who sealed the point for SV Werder as he was back in the squad for the first time today after being out through injury. “That’s a great draw. The equaliser was fully deserved in my opinion,” said a happy Prödl.

WERDER.DE got all the reaction after the final whistle at the Veltins-Arena.

Thoughts on the game:

Viktor Skripnik: "We didn't want to sit back today and we wanted to attack. We created a few chances in the first half but we have to be more effective. I don't know how the game would have panned out if we'd taken the lead in the first half. We're happy with the point because it's hard for every team to score against Schalke's defence."

Sebastian Prödl: "It's a great draw and the equaliser was fully deserved in my opinion. We put in a good performance and were solid away from home, which has been our downfall over the past few months. I always had the feeling that we could come away with something today. We believed in ourselves and no one wanted to lose after conceding a goal like that."

Thomas Eichin: "The point was fully deserved. We know that we have big players who can win headers and Basti did exactly that. I'm happy that we came away with a point for Raphael and he kept us in the game with two huge saves."

Raphael Wolf: "I think that it's a good point. Normally a classic draw ends 0-0. It was tough in the first half but we had Schalke under control for long periods. I think we didn't give much away and were solid. The point feels good and shows that we can pick up points away from home against strong teams. We came into the game after conceding and that's always good for confidence."

Rouven Schröder: "We were lucky to come away with a point but it was deserved. Both teams had good chances but neither really controlled the flow of the game. We'll take a point against a side that are in the last 16 of the Champions League. There was a great sense of relief among the players after the final whistle."

Thoughts on the goal conceded:

Raphael Wolf: "The goal was entirely my fault. It was a terrible error from me and I should have held onto it. I'm embarrassed. I wanted to hold onto it, that was the mistake."

Viktor Skripnik: "Mistakes happen in football but what's important is the reaction of the player. Raphael Wolf tried to make up for his error. He was key in securing the point at the end of the game."

Thoughts on the current position in the table:

Rouven Schröder: "We now have 30 points and can concentrate on continuing to work hard."

Sebastian Prödl: "It was an important point in the relegation battle. Even though we're higher up the table we're not safe yet."

Viktor Skripnik: "The point was important in terms of continuing on the right path."
