+++ Bronze for Makiadi: Werder's Cedrick Makiadi and his Democratic Republic of Congo won an exciting penalty shootout to finish third at the Africa Cup of Nations. "We're proud of what we achieved. Our victory over neighbouring Congo was celebrated back home as if we'd won the whole tournament," said Makiadi. He missed the early stages of the tournament with injury but was on duty against Equatorial Guinea in the third-place play-off. Overall, the 30-year-old was happy with the tournament: "It was a great experience to have gone so far in the tournament. Two years earlier in South Africa we were knocked out in the group stage." He travels back to Bremen this evening. Congratulations and have a safe trip! +++
+++ Afternoon examination: Alejandro Gálvez was replaced after 50 minutes of the game against Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday. The Spaniard picked up an injury after a tackle and was helped from the field by the club doctor. A further examination will take place on Monday to determine the exact nature of the injury. +++

+++ No training on Tuesday, Trio in the gym: After the heavy exertions of last week, Viktor Skripnik has given the players of Tuesday off. Ahead of the free day, they took part in a running session on Monday. Philipp Bargfrede, Fin Bartels and Franco Di Santo took part in a session in the gym. +++
