The German national team lost for the first time since the 2010 World Cup semi-final against Spain as Werder keeper Tim Wiese and his teammates dropped their friendly against Australia 2-1 despite taking the lead Tuesday evening in Mönchengladbach. In the fourth match-up against the Socceroos, it was Germany's first defeat as Australia got some revenge for their 4-0 loss against Germany in the first round of the World Cup in South Africa. Wiese did not have a lot of work to do over the 90 minutes and was helpless on the two Aussie goals. The other Green-White in German dress, Per Mertesacker watched the game from the bench as he was rested for Werder's up-coming action in the Bundesliga by head coach Joachim Löw.
