When the Werder players showed up for training Monday morning the catch phrase was team building of a different kind. Instead of working out on the training grounds, the Green-Whites took a bike tour around Bremen.
"It was a nice ride after which we had breakfast together. It's important that we see that it only works together. We need to internalise that for the next days and weeks," said Werder keeper Sebastian Mielitz upon the team's return.
Before that, Werder once again talked about the reasons for the 2-0 home defeat against Schalke 04. Bremen have collected just nine points from the last nine Bundesliga matches - definitely not enough for what Werder are hoping to accomplish. "The mood after the match was pretty dim. We know where we are on the table at the moment. We absolutely want to improve our situation. I think that we can change a lot with good moods. So I think it was a successful action," said the 23-year-old keeper.
Tom Trybull also thought the unplanned bike tour was a good thing. "It's better to not just go right into everyday training. We talked about the match. We still have it in our heads a little but not too much - it's a healthy mix," said Trybull.
Trybull was in the starting line-up on Saturday for the fourth straight time. But the young midfielder could not stop Bremen from losing. "We cannot let ourselves be thrown for a loop too much from our own errors. We are lacking the stability. We must change that," said the 20-year-old on Monday.
