Naldo, Aaron Hunt, Sebastian Mielitz, Andreas Wolf, Philipp Bargfrede, Marko Marin, Claudio Pizarro, Clemens Fritz and Marko Arnautovic were all out either injured or sick. Instead the four-man backline consisted of Florian Hartherz, Mikaël Silvestre, Sokratis and Sebastian Boenisch in front of 4,700 spectators at Rostock's DKB Arena. Christian Vander was in goal while Wesley started the game in midfield next to Felix Kroos and Florian Trinks and behind Mehmet Ekici with Lennart Thy and Sandro Wagner in attack.
Werder dominated the early stages of the game but gradually lost control of the match and in the end had to accept being beaten clearly 3-0 by the second division side.
