Caldirola set for long lay-off

Our worst fears have been confirmed, Luca Caldirola will miss the rest of the first half of the campaign. The defender suffered a fractured fibula and ligament damage in Werder’s home game against FC Augsburg and will be out for between three to four months. The Italian underwent surgery on Sunday evening.

Despite going into the break with a deserved 1-0 lead, Werder lost their first home game of the season 2-1 to FC Augsburg. Johannsson scored from the spot just before half time but the Green-Whites’ one-goal advantage was overturned by FCA in the second period, with strikes from Gouweleeuw and Stafylidis.

Confirmed fixture schedule
