Not clinical enough

It was a tough defeat to take to end 2018 for Werder. “We had to win the game. In the end we left too many chances unfinished,” said head coach Florian Kohfeldt. The Green-Whites end the Hinrunde in mid-table, but the European places are still in reach.

Cruel defeat despite fightback

Werder ended the year with a 3-2 defeat in Leipzig, but the final result didn’t come close to telling the full story. After starting out well, the Green-Whites went 1-0 down. Klostermann was allowed to run through and smash an effort beyond Pavlenka. Shortly before half time, Timo Werner put Leipzig 2-0 up after a massive mix-up in defence. Werder fought back hard and scored twice in ten minutes...

Three festive points needed!

It’s the last game of the calendar year for Florian Kohfeldt’s men this Saturday at 15:30 CET. The aim for this away fixture in Leipzig is clear: "We want to improve our position in the table going into the Rückrunde. Every point helps, and we want three in Leipzig," said the head coach. WERDER.DE brings you all the relevant information ahead of Saturday’s clash.

Kohfeldt: “We will create chances, I am sure of that.”

In the four previous meetings between RB Leipzig and Werder, there have been at least two goals in every match. Werder coach Florian Kohfeldt believes this run could continue as two offensively powerful teams meet on Saturday (15:30 CET).

Hard work and desire secures match time in Leipzig

December has been a good month so far for Kevin Möhwald. The summer arrival from Nürnberg has found some form and found a way into the Werder starting lineup through hard work and desire. However, the 25 year-old still hasn’t reached his top of his game since joining the Green-Whites.

Annoyed with the result – happy with the development

In the end, Werder couldn’t have done much more apart from score. The chances were there in the second half. “It’s good that we put in such a convincing performance against a team competing towards the top of the league. On balance, we didn’t get enough from the game though,” said Frank Baumann after the match.

So close to winning

Werder’s last game at home this year ended in a 1-1 draw with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. It was a game rich in chances, and Werder looked the most likely to win after a dominant second half. The Green-Whites had decent chances before half time through Osako and Kruse, but it was Hoffenheim who took the lead through Bittencourt in the 31st minute. Werder came flying out the blocks in the second half and...

The end is in sight

Werder take to the pitch for the last time in the Weserstadion this year on Wednesday evening (20:30 CET). TSG 1899 Hoffenheim are the visitors, and Werder will want to end the year at home with a win. Three points could also see the side move as high as sixth in the Bundesliga table, so there’s definitely incentive going into the game!

Unpredictable vs. Unpredictable

Usually when preparing for a game, the coaches use videos of the opposition team to try to work out how they might line up. Will they use man marking or zonal marking? Will they try to exploit the flanks or play through the middle? Ahead of the game against Hoffenheim tomorrow evening, Florian Kohfeldt did not have the answers.
