Boenisch - somehow still the new guy!

He is still somehow the new guy, on the pitch at least. From the seven months that Sebastian Boenisch has been signed to Werder Bremen, the youngster has been out with a knee injury for the last five. Not the best start to make with a new club but he feels he has used the time well.

Almeida ill - Pasanen and Hunt carrying knocks

There is a bout of the flu doing the rounds in Bremen at the moment and two of Werder’s players have fallen foul to it. Both Hugo Almeida and Max Kruse had to rest up while the squad began preparations for Saturday’s clash with Borussia Dortmund. In addition, Petri Pasanen and Aaron Hunt are suffering from groin problems which will most likely keep them out of the tie.
