The Werder Lab - bringing technological change to the world of football, by Werder Bremen, powered by betahausX

“We need to learn”

These are the moments that show just how cruel football can be. SV Werder Bremen played some great football and deserved the win, but ended up with just the one point. Nils Petersen’s 93rd minute equaliser sums up SVW’s current problems. Just like the game against Hertha BSC, Florian Kohfeldt’s side dominated large periods of the game, but fell to a late goal from the opposition. “We shouldn’t...

Freiburg have the last laugh in Bremen

What a bitter end to the game. Werder were seconds away from victory against the team fourth in the table, but walk away with just a point after their fifth consecutive Bundesliga draw. The former Bremen man Nils Petersen grabbed the equaliser in the third minute of added time in front of a sold-out WESERSTADION. In the first half, Milot Rashica opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the...

Quick off the mark

Leonardo Bittencourt was a highly-lauded signing when he joined Werder shortly before the end of the summer transfer window. At the time, head coach Florian Kohfeldt called him “an experienced Bundesliga player who will strengthen our attack with his talent.” The last few matches over the past months have proven Kohfeldt right. It didn’t take long for the speedy playmaker to adjust to life in...

"It was a very mature performance"

Goals galore, attractive football and into the next round of the cup: what more could you want? Florian Kohfeldt’s side put the game to bed after scoring 3 goals in the first 20 minutes. Kohfeldt described the second half performance as “mature” after retaining a 4-1 lead. Sebastian Langkamp described the game as “one of the best first-half performances of the season so far.” The reaction to the...

Full speed into the round of 16!

What a first half! What a game! Werder march on into the round of 16 of the DFB Pokal after a convincing 4-1 victory at home to 1. FC Heidenheim. SVW were all over the visitors in the first half, making them pay with a 3-0 lead after just 18 minutes. Rashica, Bittencourt and Klaassen grabbed the goals for the hosts. Friedl then added a fourth in the 41st minute. Schnatterer pulled one back for...

Osako in the squad, Moisander needs more time

Head coach Florian Kohfeldt can now call upon Yuya Osako in the 2nd round cup tie against FC Heidenheim. The Werder attacker just missed out on being named in the squad for the match in Leverkusen, instead remaining in Bremen. For club captain Niklas Moisander, however, the Pokal tie is still too early.

"We are difficult to beat"

Werder are now unbeaten in each of their last four games after a 2-2 draw in Leverkusen, although they have only taken a point once again. Kohfeldt's side weren't consistent enough in an entertaining 90 minutes on Saturday evening. "We played on the counter and deservedly led 2-1. Then we lost control of the game," added Kohfeldt.

Another 2-2 draw - Werder take home a point against Leverkusen

Werder draw 2-2 for the third successive game after a pulsating Topspiel at Leverkusen on Saturday night. An Ömer Toprak own goal gave B04 an early lead after four minutes, before Milot Rashica's deflected shot levelled things just before the break (40'). Davy Klaassen then put Kohfeldt's side ahead five minutes after the break, but Lucas Alario equalised just ten minutes later. Two handballs...

Take risks

Werder have put in some good displays over the past weeks, but haven’t been rewarded with a win after drawing each of their last three games. A lack of consistency and coolness in front of goal has been the biggest problem. Bremen finally want the three points on Saturday at home to Leverkusen (26/10, 18:30 CEST). “We will have to take risks,” explained Florian Kohfeldt at the pre-match press...

“Either score or don’t concede”

Last week’s result against Hertha BSC was disappointing for everyone in Green and White; and Florian Kohfeldt knows it. Nevertheless, the head coach doesn’t want to focus on the missed opportunities, but rather build on their approach to the game. “The game against Berlin has made us realise that we can play our type of football, while being secure at the back,” Kohfeldt said ahead of Saturday’s...

Toprak in the squad - anything possible for Osako

Werder head coach Florian Kohfeldt can once again rely on Ömer Toprak for the upcoming away game against Bayer 04. The centre back returned to team training during this week and is in the squad for the Leverkusen game, as confirmed by Kohfeldt at the press conference. Even Yuya Osako is in question for the weekend.

Trio return, Pizarro trains individually

Great news for Werder fans as the new week of training begins ahead of the game against Leverkusen: Ömer Toprak and Yuya Osako are back in team training. Niklas Moisander is also close to being back in action. However, Claudio Pizarro is working individually.
