International round-up: Kleinheisler draws against the Vikings

The second matchday of the European Championship in France is over. All participating countries now have two group games behind them and all three of the Werder trio, László Kleinheisler, Zlatko Junuzovic and Theo Gebre Selassie, still have the chance to progress to the round of 16 on their countries’ final matchday.

Werder head to Lotte in the first round

SV Werder Bremen will face Sportfreunde Lotte in the first round of the 2016/17 DFB Cup, with the tie taking place in mid-August (19th-22nd). Further scheduling details will be announced in due course.

Werder reach agreement over Kainz transfer

SV Werder Bremen and Rapid Vienna have reached an agreement over the transfer of Florian Kainz. The midfielder will join the Green-Whites on a long-term deal, subject to a medical. The deal was confirmed by both clubs on Friday morning and the 23-year-old has already bid farewell to his Rapid teammates. The transfer fee will remain undisclosed.

Ankle injury setback for Junuzovic

Zlatko Junuzovic will certainly have imagined a different outcome from his first game at EURO 2016. Successful EURO 2016 debut for Kleinheisler

For the Hungary national team with László Kleinheisler in the starting XI, it was the perfect start to the European Championship. Hungary beat rivals Austria 2-0 with two second-half goals. Kleinheisler assisted Adam Szalai fantastically in scoring the first goal, while Zlatko Junuzovic was unfortunately forced off through injury after an hour.

Narrow defeat for Gebre Selassie

They almost got themselves over the line. The Czech Republic and Werder’s Gebre Selassie held off Spain for 87 minutes, but eventually their defence was cracked open by the defending champions three minutes before the final whistle.

Felix Kroos moving to Union Berlin

Felix Kroos is moving to the capital. The 25-year-old midfielder is leaving SV Werder and will join 1. FC Union Berlin for the new season. Both clubs announced the transfer on Monday morning. Kroos was on loan at the second-division outfit for the second half of 2015/16. The transfer fee remains undisclosed.

Loan: Aycicek to stay with 1860 München

Levent Aycicek will continue to play for TSV 1860 München in the coming season. Sporting director Frank Baumann revealed on Friday that the 22-year-old, who featured for The Lions in the second half of last season, will spend a further year own loan at the second-division outfit.

Jaroslav Drobny joins Werder

Goalkeeper Jaroslav Drobny has joined SV Werder Bremen. The 36-year-old has moved to the Green-Whites from Hamburger SV and has signed a contract until 30.06.2017. Sporting director Frank Baumann confirmed the news on Wednesday afternoon. The former Czech Republic international completed his medical in Bremen earlier in the day.

Green-Whites at Kirin Cup

The Kirin Cup is a tradition in Japan. Since 1978, teams from around the world have been invited to compete. Bulgaria, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Denmark were the participants this year. Two Werder players were in action for their respective national sides. Jannik Vestergaard and Izet Hajrovic met in the semi-final and both played again on Monday.

Training camp promises to be a tough trip

Werder youngster Johannes Eggestein extends until 2019

SV Werder have tied attacking ace Johannes Eggestein down to a new long-term deal. The 18-year-old has signed a professional contract until 30.06.2019. Sporting director Frank Baumann revealed the news on Thursday. The attacker, who had been top scorer at youth level for the past three years and received several lucrative offers, chose to extend his spell with the Green-Whites.
